DI/ODE (noun)

Pronunciation: /ˈdaɪəʊd/

Origin: Di-ode, blend of “double,” “digital” and “ode,” coined in the early 21sh century.

Definition: A genre of cybernetic poetry characterized by its fusion of poetic logic with digital and computational elements. DI/ODEs are typically generated or composed through simulated algorithms, mechanical doppelgangers, or technopoietic circuits, resulting in differential, non-predictive and often indeterminate poetic structures. DI/ODEs employ reduplicative structures to deconstruct existing generative procedures of artificial intelligence.

Etymology: The term “DI/ODE” is a portmanteau of the prefix “di-” (Gk. “double”) with “digital” and “ode.” The use of “digital” reflects the incorporation of technopoietic and digital processes in the construction of these texts, while “ode” signifies the poetic and generative character of the genre.

Usage: DI/ODEs challenge conventional notions of poetry by reduplicating and transposing poetic logics within machinic processes and vice versa.
